  15. <p>     DIED. Thomas Curtis, 81, U.S. Representative and federal
  16. official; in Allegan, Michigan. After nine terms as a Republican
  17. Congressman from Missouri, Curtis was named chairman of the
  18. Corporation for Public Broadcasting; he resigned in 1973 after
  19. accusing Nixon officials of manipulating his agency for
  20. political ends. Later appointed head of the Federal Elections
  21. Commission, Curtis became an early advocate of limits on
  22. congressional campaign financing.
